Hawks at the sugar cane harvest

Sugar cane is harvested by first burning the undergrowth and the lower leaves. This burn is hot and quick and kills small mammals, snakes, etc. The field scheduled to be burned is well posted in English and Spanish to keep people away. When the fire cools, the harvesters arrive with huge machines that cut, clean remaining leaves and dice the stalks into segments about 9 inches long. As the field is cleared, the remains of the critters are exposed and the hawks, buzzards and an occasional coyote come to feast. Today, I saw at least 250 hawks. White tail, Ferruginous, Harris, Osprey, CaraCara, Black, Turkey Buzzard
