Montezuma Castle is a five story 12th and 13th century cliff dwelling built by the Sinagua Indians in central Arizona. It actually has nothing to do with Montezuma but was misnamed by early explorers. Montezuma well is a detached part of the national monument 11 miles from the castle. The well is a limestone sinkhole 470 feet wide and 55 feet deep and is rimmed with cliff dwellings and pueblos. Both portions of the national monument are well worth the visit.
