Fort Tejon State Historic Park

Fort Tejon is located between Backersfield and Los Angeles along Highway 5. The fort was established in 1854 to protect and control the Indians who were living on the Sebastian Indians Reservation, and to protect both the Indians and white settlers from raids by other Indian groups. The fort was abandoned on September 11, 1864.
