One of the highest rated nursing homes in the Philadelphia area, St. John Neumann is the place that my mother calls home. After the passing of my father in January 2008, our family looked for the best option for the full time care of my mother, who has been diagnosed with dimentia (probably Alzheimer's Disease) for about the last 7 to 8 years. St. John Neumann Nursing Home fit the bill perfectly. After losing her husband of 62 years, we were concerned about how Mom would adjust to living in a facility so different from what she had been accustomed to, even though the family would visit her on a regular basis. Our fears were unfounded as she loves the staff, the food, the entertainment and "Happy Hours" at the Home. Most of all, she loves her new friends who she is with almost every waking hour of every day. Our family is relieved to see Mom so happy and stimulated by interactions with the nursing home staff and residents each day. I try to take my camera to the Home every time I visit to try to record the mood and emotions of the place my mother loves. Nursing homes may not be a favorite subject for many but if you really need one for an aging parent or loved one, get off your butt and check out several homes in your area to see what they offer. You may be suprised at what you find.
