Farewell to Jake

The original Jake the Wonder Dog gallery has appeared here for many months with photos of our Yellow Lab, Jake. Early in January 2007, Jake was diagnosed with lymphoma and we immediately started agressive canine chemotherapy injections for him at the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary Hospital. Jake rallied for several weeks but on Friday, February 9, 2007 it was evident that Jake had a relapse and was suffering. My wife and I were with him to the end at the vet's office when he was put to sleep. If he had not been such a great dog, I don't think this would hurt so much. This gallery will remain up as a tribute to the best dog I've ever had.

Jake looks like he was a great dog. There is always one dog that seems to strike a cord in our hearts a little more than the others. You love them all but dogs like Jake and my Rook take a big piece of your heart when they go. Have you read the book, A Dog's Purpose? It is a quick read and helped us through the loss of Rook and our little Finn. I don't know what people do without a dog in their lives. I can't even imagine life without them. I am sorry for your loss and am happy to see that you have other buddies in your life.

Saying goodbye to our pets over the years - three collies and one long-lived tiger cat, has been very, very difficult, so this gallery certainly strikes a chord with us. They truly become part of your lives, and we miss them all.

Great tribute to a best friend. There's nothing like a yellow lab. I went thru the same thing with my ole boy Bodie -I found out he had a brain tumor after taking him to Cornell. Worst day of my life have to put my best friend down. I only lasted three days and went out and got me a new boy named him Dobie. A great dog too..

:( brought tears to my eyes. Sorry about Jake but glad you were able to enjoy his friendship. Our dog Buddy died in March at home :( He was 18 in December. Now we only have Bailey who turned 3 the same day Buddy turned 18

I understand. I am a dog lover as well, and recently, this past July, had to say goodbyw to my Sophie girl. The loss is so huge, because they are such wonderful companions. I bet Otis and Jake are running around together in that special place having a blast, wondering why all the tears!! Aren't we lucky... the love goes on forever! Beautiful gallery - gorgeous critter! Your love for him is so well illustrated in every image.....

Awwwwwwwww, I love the name, "Jake the wonder dog".. .. . It's nice to know that Bill and I aren't the only ones who literally sobbed over the loss of our dog. I believe it's the unconditional love they give us that makes it hurt so much when it's time to let them go. Beautiful Gallery. . . thanks for sharing. Wanda

This is heart-wrenching stuff and a wonderful way to honor Jake's memory. Dogs are so cool. We lost three dogs in three years: two died of disease and one was put down before the disease could claim him. I miss them.

We have lost too many dogs and it hurts each time. Google "Rainbow Bridge" for a poem that may give you some small comfort. It helped us.
