Rhus copallina

October 24

Kingston Springs, TN

Another little pop seen during my morning commute. I have
been watching this Shining Sumac and Aralia spinosa (Devil's
Walking Stick/the yellow leaves) for a few days. The color
and light came together this morning. May have been from
our first light frost of the season.

Finding a bit of red yourself I see Scott. Very nice.
Have you noticed that both the walking stick and the sumac are losing leaves very early? Dry spell got them I guess but even the ones at 3,000 feet, where things were cooler and a bit more humid, are in the same state.

Scott, this is the Rhus that can cause a bad reaction if touched isn't it ? Have not seen one in years. Pity as they have very attracive foliage.

Nice light, like the way some of the leaves are vertical and almost split with colour.

We have some flaming Sumac in this area, but nothing like this. Brilliant and beautiful.
