Week 9

("9th Update" FROM JENNIFER & BILLY on 4 Sept 2012)

Ups and Downs…

Since our last update, Aiden had to make a special trip to clinic. After multiple nights of no sleep and a sore throat, we were concerned there was a problem. What we learned, his counts were much higher than they should be which suggests there is an infection. They gave him fluids and an antibiotic so we could go home and wait. The blood culture never presented anything major and he got better with each day.

Wednesday, Aiden celebrated his 5th birthday. We did what we could to make it special, and he loved it! There were balloons, bubbles and lots of presents. He received more than 80 cards in the mail, and he was excited by every one of them. We had passed a video camera around so those who are closest to him could take part in his day. What a special gift we will keep always. He absolutely loved all the happy wishes and was singing happy birthday to himself by the end of the recordings.

On Thursday, we spent a "Normal" day at the clinic. His doctors and nurses are wonderful and truly make extra efforts to cater to his needs. We have put our faith and trust in them, and are so thankful they are with us through this journey. After a trying day, he still showed amazing strength. He played in his toy room for the first times since before being hospitalized July 1st. What a special boy and an amazing example of courage. This is why he is our super hero, our Amazing "A"!

Friday, a special treat! Ashlynn and Katie were in for the Holiday weekend. For some, and extra day is a day of rest. For Aiden, an extra day with his sister is full of fun. This means more smiles for all of us!

The weekend was difficult! Ups and downs does not explain how things change in a blink of an eye. This past weekend he experienced terrible sensitivity to the touch, it was painful for him. This led us to a night on the sofa, to avoid disturbing his sleep. Medicine, even in apple sauce, is traumatic again. On Sunday, he lost every bit of it trying to overcome the thought, smell and taste of it.

His hair, it's on its way out. We have struggled with telling him, but now we're sure he knows. Days of pulling it out of his mouth, off his shirt and anything he touched…it remains!

This week he's taken great strides. He's pushing through what we couldn't, even when he feels bad. You'll see this in pictures this week. Scott, he loves your visits and so do we.

This Thursday at clinic, he will begin his next round of the aggressive chemo. It will include a long day and multiple different treatments. Again, we will administer chemo from home over the weekend. Pray he trusts us, as we need him to believe we only do this to help make him better.
