natural rocky swimming pools

Porto Moniz

Porto Moniz is located on the coast in the extreme northwest of Madeira and forms together with the villages do Jesse and Achadas da Ribeira Cruz of the municipality of Porto Moniz.
The village is mainly due to its natural swimming pools and unpredictable coastal with lava rocks.
These rocks are as a kind of rock wall around Porto Moniz. At high tide, these rocks are flooded and thus fill the pools, which are visited mainly by the local population. Swimming is safe in the summer in the winter, it can be dangerous because of the current.
