Hello Conrad,
I stumbled across your photo gallery today. It was a treat to see areas of the world I have not traveled to in years, and also to see areas my children have visited that I have not. You have a keen eye. Thank you for sharing your gift.

Dear Konrad
I was in Gruyere Castle this week and came across your art exibition there that I beleive was called "in prisoner's eyes". Absolutly loved it and really wanted to buy some prints.I looked at the castle gift shop but poster book they had was small and I wanted lot more.
Where can I buy the prints from?

Marcel,

Thanks for the info. That Busslinger in DOD while you were at Hughes was John Buslinger. I did find out that my great-grandfather, who came to the US in 1861 (Albert), father's name was Melchior and mother was Mary F. He had been trained for the priesthood, but elected against it (Don't if he took his vows, but broke them, none-the-less with 8 kids). I think I've talked to your son, Charles is his name, right?

Anyway, I think you were surprised at the short build of my uncle. This past weekend, I found out that my grandfather was about 6'1"+. His stature, or lack thereof, coming from his mother's side of the family. Thanks for posting and Konrad, if you can shed some light on the origin of the name (geographically speaking), I would appreciate it. I did find a book in the US that indicates that the name is derivation of the German Burkhardt. How's that?
Marcel Busslinger 09-Mar-2011 09:51
I am Marcel V. Busslinger - immigrated in November 1957 with a friend
from Switzerland. We both came on preferred Visas to the US- there were about
732 Preferred Immigration Visas issued in 1957. We both had just graduated as
electrical engineers, but we also had already 4 years experience working as engineers
in the largest Swiss Company Brown-Bovery, because we went to the tough engineering school ATZ at night and Saturdays, after having graduated at the Zurich Technical Trade College. That is why the American Consul issued a preferred Visa to us. We arrived by plane in New York in brand new semi formal suites with about 12 Dollars in our pockets, and a guaranteed job at Allen Bradley in Milwaukee. We had to
show our Chest X-Rays in New York before we could fly on to Milwaukee.
Arriving at Allen Bradley, we learned that they had promised only a Draftsmen Job and that we had to go on a 3 month training tour throughout the Plant. In other words they tricked us. Well, we took the occasion and started reporting product engineering mistakes we saw on the tour, and reported to management about workers who did not have proper training and inappropriate tools to perform their jobs. In other words we
started turning the processes upside down and started to teach them the latest technical know how we had learned in Switzerland, because Allen Bradley was using very outdated technologies. A year later- I was hired by General Motors Milwaukee division as an Electrical Engineer getting training in the Missile division. Another year later, after obtaining also an electronics degree, I ended up at Hughes Aircraft Co in California- building Airdefense Systems for 30 Years for the free world. What an exiting career that draftsmen job turned into, after also acquiring an MBA at Pepperdine Universitiy.
During the 30 years I met with highest military officials of foreign countries, including
Switzerland. During the wining and dining events, they always asked- how did you end
up at Hughes Aircraft. My answer was that I just kept going to school at night, even after getting married to a Swiss Girl.
During my years at Hughes I met a Busslinger from the US Defense Department, who's
Grandparents had changed the name to Buslinger (one s only). I have been retired for 21 years but have not met or heard about any other Busslinger in the US.
What an exiting career the US had provided for me. It was worth the flight in 1957 in the semi-formal suit and it was real opportunity America had offered to me.

I see I'm not the first Busslinger from the western hemisphere to write. Like Daniel, I'm a son (great-grandson in my case), of a Swiss emigre. We've anglicize the name to Buslinger several generations back. My Great-Grandfathers name was Albert Busslinger, son Micheal. Albert was born in 1832, his father in 1782. Any help in understanding the origins of the name, family, etc., would be greatly appreciated.

BTW, great pics, thx for sharing.

After my visit to europe, even though I had shot many photos myself, I was not completely happy. I was looking into others images too. Very few have done justice to the beautiful countries of europe in this website. And yours is one of them. I have saved your gallery as my favourite so that I can visit Europe often!!! thanks for the treat.
Garrett Cobarr 21-Sep-2008 01:08
Konrad, I just wanted to let you know what an excellent resource your images are to me. I was in Switzerland in February 2008 as part of our project. I am a virtual worlds designer and as part of our Swissopolis build in Second Life I shot a number of images in St Galen, Zurich, Geneva, Bern and at Santis. Unfortunately, I found after returning to Seattle, WA USA that I was still missing a number of reference images for chalets. Missed that style of architecture completely. Building accurate, both visually and culturally 3D representations is a challenge, your galleries are making that much easier. Thanks. BTW I shot with a Canon EOS 20 D.

Thanks for your comment on my photo of Cove Mountain, Konrad. You were one of the first I added to my list of favorites after landing here. Your photos of Switzerland in particular make me say "damn" every time I look at them. More than that, it makes me want to visit them and I guess that is what most landscape photographers are really after.

Hello Konrad ...
Thanks for visiting my gallery - I had many problems with color issues on editing until I recalibrated my monitor, so I've been catching up with lots pictures taken in the past year or so - still have about 500 pics more to process and upload.

I've also been neglecting the comments/messages received for a while now, and thought I should visit others too. You have a very impressive set up here.

Kind regards, Gul
