St Mary's Church York transformed into a work of Art (Echo) by Susie Macmurray. The work is constructed from over 10,000 hairnets and discarded rosin covered horsehair from violin bows. Apparently the artist chose hairnets for their delicate nature and their metaphorical connection to the human body. The violin bow hair was chosen because of its former role in the in the intense and emotive human experience of making music. To me it looks like the echoes of the souls of all the former medieval church worshipers. What ever the logic behind the installation the effect is absolutely stunning.
