I made one of those PVC lightboxes this morning and decided to try it out with this spider mum. I love how it works... I still need to get a piece of white art paper. For now, I just used a hunk of white fabric I had.
I think the big problem is that there is no center of attraction on this flower to attract the eye.

Try the following...
1) you should stop the lens down as much a possible..This is a difficult flower to shoot at there is no real detail.. I would try to manual focus on a midpoint and close down as much as possible...
2) Give some lighting from the side 40 deg.. Not direct light..
3) In the post processing give it more contrast and add some yellow..
4) use the sharpening tool..
5) turn on the light in the light box.. I prefer natural light..
6) You could also try just using back light and no frontal lighting...
Good luck..
