"M" is for "Movies"

Tallahassee / Quincy, Florida

There are “Chick Flicks” and then there are real movies, … movies with blood and guts and bullets and bombs and explosions and intrigue and aliens bursting from bodies and the occasional nikkid lady and other such cool stuff. Those movies are generally called “Guy Movies”. My wife and I have around three hundred movies or so, and in all honesty they are pretty much split down the middle between “Chick Flicks” and “Guy Movies”. What’s rather odd about this is neither one of us watch that much TV. I’m a morning and evening news guy, … occasional science show, … she has her one or two “chick shows” that she watches once a week. Ahhh, … but movies! We do enjoy them! She leaves tomorrow on ANOTHER trip, … so once again I’ll be watching bombs and bullets and maybe nikkid babes.
Movies with blood and guts and gore, … a guy thing.

John, I still think we should do a Lord of the Rings marathon. So what if it's twelve hours? That's still only half a day. You can even take a short nap between movies. (notice I did not say 'cat' nap, as I know you hate cats. Though it would indeed be a 'cat' nap if you failed to close your bedroom door completely for the cats would be napping with you.) Heck since I'm up this early with threats of constant knocking on my door should I dare to go back to bed, I think it's only appropriate that we start off with The Fellowship of the Ring.

Well, it’s true that when we watch movies together, most of the time it’s a “Guy Movie” because, ... well, … just because! LOL! Ira, … this is just a fraction of my collection and I do indeed have “Full Metal Jacket”, “Apocalypse Now” and “Platoon” as well as “Searching for Private Ryan” (excellent), “We were Soldiers”, “Master & Commander”, “Gladiator”, “Troy” and many others. Ian, the “Guy Movies” that I enjoy are also intrigue, mysteries, science fiction, etc. “The Green Mile” is an absolute superb movie and one of my favorites as well as another very old Stephen King movie called “Stand By Me” based on his short story “The Body”. If memory serves, I think it was at least nominated for an Oscar if it did not actually win one.

As a footnote, I do believe I will have to photograph my movies when I return, gotta let you see the difference, eh?

Ah, so now the truth comes out! He looks forward to my short 'trips' and watches his 'Guy flicks'!! The problem is we don't watch 'girls' and 'guys' flicks 50% of the time! hmmph!! more like 'his' 80% of the time, and 'hers' 20% of the time! double hmmph!! He even talked me into watching 'Pitch Black' when we were dating and I had nightmares for days! yep, I think the next movie needs to be my choice :o) Love ya, darlin'

I notice you also have ‘The Green Mile’ in your collection. Not a movie that would fall within the criteria you laid down for a ‘Guy Movie’ but still one of the most outstanding films I have ever seen. And this man is not ashamed to admit it is one of very few films to move me to tears. That it’s here in your collection says a lot about you. Salute!

Great collection. I have a bunch of the same ones. I see you have Point of No Return. I have that one and the original French version which is called La Femme Nakita. Both are great. Yeah, I also have Mystic River and Lord of The Rings. How come I don't see Apocolypse Now, Full Metal Jacket, and Platoon in your collection?
