I used a Nikon 400mm f/2.8 lens for these early June images. Camera set to manual focus and the lens set to the minimum focus distance. This was the best from 1200 exposures. I was pre focused for an assumed flight path. Each encounter was three images as the bird reacted to the camera noise. Incoming image, sitting on the feeder, and escape. This image was incoming to the feeder. I found everything set to manual gave me the best images if I guessed focus point well. Auto everything had the most failures as even the D6 was not quick enough. May images were shot with the 70-200mm f/2.8. This was way easier but the backgrounds showed more distracting details. 400mm was more challenging but clean backgrounds.
