I had no problems with the sensors or cameras. I figured by not using a tripod and by shooting at 1/4000 sec that there would not be enough time to fry anything in the camera, especially with the sun mostly obscured by cloud cover and I just took one shot. I didn't point for long at all. It was quick, focus, and shoot for 1/4000 second. The other camera had a 9ND filter and a UV filter and did just fine with very short exposures and no tripod holding the focus on the sun. The 18-250 and the 18-400 are pretty similar in image quality.

Did this fry your camera or lens? Shooting without any filter burnt my friend's Nikon sensor. He has to replace that camera. Problem with his unprotected lens also. How did your other camera do with just ND filter
You must have very steady hand to go without tripod. How much post processing was needed? Which lens did a better job? T
