Avala is some 12 kilometers far. It is easily accessible with the public transportation, and even easier with private car. It is open for everyone, there is now TV tower 200 meters high, originally built in 1964 but destroyed in 1999, but built again ;) (you can go to some 120 meters to the viewpoint gallery)Avala is actually just big hill (500m high) but it has nice woods for walking. Avala is Turkish word, though it really sound spanish :P and it means "ruins of the fortress" (or something like that)

The Dart Vader building is known as "beogradjanka" (belgrade woman, don't know why they gave building woman name)and it is foremost known for the belgrade's tv and radio station "studio B". Domed building is church, Saint's Sava's, the newest oldest church in Balkan :) started before world war two, but still didn't finished :).

Unfortunately we have less and less old buildings bur more and more new Dart Vader-ish shopping molls.

How far is it to Avala? Is it easily accessible and also, I looked it up and I see they have the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier there. Can people visit Avala? For some reason, the name sounds Spanish to me......

I love this view of the city! Old and new architecture combined! The tall skyscraper reminds me a little of one we have in West Palm Beach, nicknamed "The Darth Vadar Building" because of its sleek, shiny black exterior. The domed building stands out, as well. I think that is church or cathedral. I have seen a close-up and know it is lovely and adds alot to the overall aesthetics of the city.
