Contact adhesives offer the benefit of high strength as they are primarily composed of polymers which exhibit the power to bond themselves permanently to itself as dry hard adhesive substances. The most widely used types of contact adhesives are the epoxy resin type, the ethyl vinyl chloride (EVC), the ethyl ester type, the polyurethane form and also the mineral spirits form. However, most of these adhesives tend to bond the surface with the help of mineral spirits mixed with water. contact adhesive wilko The most important benefit offered by this type of adhesive is that it can be used in a wide range of construction activities such as bonding metals, woodworking, painting, assembling and so on.

Other advantages offered by these types of contact adhesives include ease in application, quicker drying time, chemical resistance and also rapid corrosion proofing. These factors make them the best choice for bonding wood, metal and many other kinds of materials. There are two types of contact adhesives available namely, the liquid contact adhesives and the solvent evaporation adhesives. Both of them are used for bonding purposes, however, the solvents evaporate faster than the liquids do and hence need to be applied more frequently.

Ligustics are a special category of adhesive materials which are usually prepared from rubber or plastic. Unlike other adhesives, the ligustics are not affected by changes in temperature and do not deteriorate when exposed to heat, light or air. Most of these ligustics consist of polymers having a aromatic base like polyurethane. One of the most important characteristics of these ligustics is that they have excellent mechanical properties. This property makes them ideal for bonding rubber and plastic together.

Most of the contact adhesives contain a flammable solvent base like mineral spirits. This ingredient is responsible for the chemical reaction leading to its evaporation. Some examples of flammable solvents in contact adhesives include acetone and methanol. Some of the flammable solvent based adhesives have been found to be environmentally friendly and hence can be used in place of petroleum-based products.

There are different types of contact adhesives depending upon their specific task. The two basic types are the static type and the tensile type. The static type comprises of a liquid and/or a powder and is applied to the surface to be bonded by a brush or a roller. In this process, the bond is allowed to dry completely. On the other hand, the tensile type is comprised of a powder and an injector to apply the powder. Once the powder is injected in the injector, it fills up the entire injector for bonding.

A good example of a static form of contact adhesives is the static charge tape. This is a glue that consists of water based contact adhesives and static charge. To use it, one must place the tape over the area to be fixed and then apply the static charge and allow it to dry. Once it becomes dry, the tape can simply be pulled off and replaced on the same spot. Thus, this provides an extensive base for which the tape can be pulled down.

A rubber based contact adhesives are excellent for making holes or sharp corners. They offer high shear strength, which is important in ensuring that they do not break or chip off due to pressure. In addition, they are capable of offering friction free operation for longer periods of time.

In order to achieve optimum performance out of rubber adhesives, it is advisable to ensure that they are well protected. For instance, they can be secured using heat sealers to increase their life span and prevent premature wearing away of their materials. The sealer will also prevent dust and other impurities from entering into the sealing mechanism, thereby maintaining its functionality.
