I was stationed on Manus 1945 naval wireless operator I remember it very well, very hot. It was a very busy island stocking up warships US and British alike.

Ken, the DC is on the Naval Base itself. If you go over that rise where you suddenly see the water off ahead in the distance (1Km?) and then go down the hill there is a small jetty off to the right (where a PB is moored). Turn left and go past the sailor's accommodation and all the WWII quansit huts. The DC is right there, boardering the shore facing north.

I was on Manus in 1966/67. At the time I was with Posts and Telegraphs, based in Rabaul and completly rereticulated all of the underground telephone cable in Lorangau and also reticulated the underground network at the then HMAS Taurangau Naval Base on Los Negros. I am tryimg to find out exactly, where abouts the Dentention Centre is

I was up at Manus Island last month, the first time back after 13 years, people of Manus hold your heads down in shame. I have seen slums which were cleaner, Lorengau was disgusting, rubbish every where. Tourist will not come to a place if it looks like a rubish tip for holidays. Ol mun , meri long ples, bel belong yupela e save stap gut, tiam yupela e save lukim ples olsem??? I could not see any advancement in Manus but a complete reversal of what had been done. I just hope one day some one will try and bring it back to what it was years ago GOOD LUCK. Em tasol tok belong mi.

Guest: Pictures are beautiful and were heart warming for all who commented and me likewise. It's becoming a real worry where no-one can take the initiative to even do the littlest of things by cleaning up the town and beautifying it for tourisim purposes. I am sure Mr. Powes Pakop can provide alot of pointers to those in charge of the province to have something in place for a start. Can we all come up with constructive ideas to do something please? I am sure we all want to be home just by seeing these pictures which are only a window to more of what is yet to be seen throughout our province, but I am more certain that these pictures should be a beginning to bringing a handful of Manusians to work together to do something. If we're all meeting up in Manus this Christmas, why not do a cleanup campaign with BSP Manus as a Start? Anything constructive would be helpful. Suggestions/Ideas?

Manus has gone to the dogs and will never advance in anyway. The beauty is one but it is the human resources of Manus that has lost its plot in the development of PNG and in particular your Island. You Manusians resemble a candidate in national election who forgot to vote for himself and instead voted his rival. Your prospect for tourism lies within you Manusians but are Blinded by the facts and continue to spit out ill conceive words. Only the wise will rise. When will Manus rise. Or are we sinking in the face of global warming. Goodby Manus. Sorry I live in the Mount Gilwe but I have a heart for Manus. At one stage Manus was above the whole country but suddenly in the 80s it has disappeared. Only to appear again in these beautiful pictures.

The real beauty of Manus is far from hid. It takes God's wisdom to reveal its beauty . Only few like Gary Eckert a non Manusian with Gods wisdom to again, remind us how beautiful Manus Island is. Hi.. my father is Portugese and mother is from Manus, Never been to Manus, I hope to visit it this Christmas, and grandma is taking me to her island (Johnson Is), then to Patusi, Pere, Timonai, Baluan to see the grave yards of my ancestors, I think on the island of Mouk. Sons and Daughters from the beautiful Admiralty Islands knows as Manus, from where I come from. Our island is what we make of it so let's stop 'talking' and start 'doing' with passion and genuinty. Let's not be like the emblem on our flag (the chauka and the snail), I'm sure you'll know what it means but, for the benefit of those who don't, The Chauka bird makes too much loud noise and the Snail crawls by very very slow. I am Larry LaFontaine, I was a U.S.N. Armed Guard Gunner on a Liberty ship. we spent a month At Manus Island in 1944.We took the 40th C.B. batallion and their equipment there.It was a beautiful Island. I saw quite a bit of it. Also went flying with Mag.31 Marines. and saw the island from the air. I supose the Island is entirely different now? I have a few pictures of the natives, I remember BoB Hope and his group stopping and putting on a show.

There are alot more scenery in manus, with extreme beauty. Sommetimes it's worth paying for that plane ticket, go home and soak it then you won't forget it.....

Can someone in Manus Provincial Government or Manus Tourism Board please do something to boost tourism in Manus Province? We have been sleeping for far too long. Everybody can benefit from tourism in Mwanus.

I'm extremely glad that there are beautiful pictures of Manus Province on the web, at least now; many people around the world can see how incredible this small island (which I love and also call “home”) really is!!
