Historic Dewey Bridge

Scenic Highway 128 in Dewey

The Dewey Bridge served as the only connection between Grand Junction, CO and Moab, UT over the Colorado River from the time it was built in 1916 up until 1986 when it closed to traffic. Built by Midland Bridge Company of Kansas City, it was designed to hold 6 horses, 3 wagons, and 9000 pounds of freight. It cost $25,000 to construct.
Today it serves only foot and bike traffic.

Hi Russ,
If I were driving your bus over that bridge, I don't think I would have exhaled until I reached the other side.
I'm glad you made across OK.

I crossed this bridge in 1975 in my 10000 lbs camper bus. the sides of the bridge came into the bus so the mirrors had to be folded in. I never forgot this experience because I thought I was going be in the Colorado river.
