I fell in love with this very old town. I hope it doesn't get over-commercialised like Nesebar
or over-developed like Vlas. Some of the images are a bit trivial - you may say they could be
from any seaside town. Well you have to trust me on this one - all images are from Sozopol.
Sozopol is one of the oldest Bulgarian towns. 2600 years ago Greeks settled here and
on the remains of a Thracian settlement they found Apolonia. They called the town after
the name of God Apollo – protector of the arts. Apollonia was the biggest and richest town
on the Black Sea cast. It was a center of flourishing trade and art.
Sozopol is a town boasting a cornucopia of amenities dating back to deep antiquity.
In the archaeological museum in the town there has been preserved a huge collection of
Amphorae, stone anchors and model ships used by the Phoenicians, Greeks and other ancient
peoples with whom Sozopol was in active relationship.
Apart from a busy trade center, Apolonia was also a center of culture and the arts, a tradition
well kept alive with the annual festival of the arts in the month of September. The festival
continues for 10 days and nights and offers to its visitors music, dances and theatrical
performances, films and exhibitions.
