This street in Sarajevo was relatively safe because snipers didn't have a clear shot. This is the way I remember the city during the Serbian seige: smoky, wet streets, but with a certain beauty. The people were friendly and hopefull. Then I'd go home to San Francisco and everybody was stressed out, bitchy, and fighting over parking spaces while screaming into cell phones.
