Prevlaka

Kotor Bay, Montenegro

Prevlaka protects the mouth of Kotor Bay. The fortress had been off limits since the end of WW2, and the JNA hadn't been keeping the place up. I went there from Dubrovnik with two Unprofor officers, one a Norwegian and one Swiss. One reason we went there was because a Russian jeep had failed to start on an earlier trip and had to be left behind. I lifted the hood of the odd-looking jeep and was shocked to see what was essentially a 1942 Dodge....I fooled with the wiring until I got a spark and then fired it up. When we passed the Chetniks at the checkpoint back to Dubrovnik they cheered at the sight of the jeep. I got the impression they'd tried to start it up themselves.

other sizes: small medium original auto

yes, prevlaka is in croatia. it was actually used as an excuse by the serb and montenegrins to attack dubrovnik ("to prevent ustashe to control kotor bay from prevlaka"). the croatian police is there today... tourist future is planned for that complex as far as i know.
