Middlegate Shoe Tree

There used to be a much bigger Cottonwood here.
Then this happened https://www.ktvn.com/story/13774854/highway-50-shoe-tree-cut-down
I have stopped here many times over the years for photos.
and this was one of my favorites—> < https://pbase.com/zeusatolympus/image/89082141
It’s sad about what has happened here.
People have been tossing shoes into some of the other
Cottonwoods near by, it's not the same.
Now people are dumping trash and dead animals here!
Kinda sad and the pieces of crap who do that are what they dump.
I would offer up and deliver some sort disgusting fate for them…
but they are not worth it and their fate will catch up with them on it’s own.

Vibrant pic of this curious tree and history. Agree with Larose.

An unusual tradition, but one has to wonder ... why chop it down? Why dump garbage there? Karma will catch up with these people. V

the shoes do not beautify the environment or the tree
thanks for the information V

My first reaction was "funny looking birds" :) Sad tho' that the tradition is spoilt. We have one near here where people have nailed their shoes to the trees. Luckily no one is dumping trash. https://pbase.com/gillk/image/169212257 V
