Lemons in July

~ The Meyer Lemon ~

Well timed for colds and flu - but this tree has lemons 12 months of the year! Its a magnificent little tree (or large shrub). We never water or fertilise it, but it has a wonderful position with roses all around - we're sure it sends the roots in amongst the roses and takes advantage of the extra water and fertiliser we give them. I often strip the tree to give it a brief rest, and we give them away. While the grandchildren are on school holidays I'll give them a job of picking lemons and putting a basket of them by our front gate with a big sign FREE LEMONS!!! The word gets around fast & the cars start arriving.

They sell Meyer lemons in the supermarket here for a few short weeks in spring/summer, they are small, very juicy and delicious. It must be lovely to have them growing in your garden!

Fine shot, Yvonne. Agree with Sheila, the lemon has to be among the most useful of fruits. ~V~
