Australian magpie caroling

Gymnorhina tibicen

We have a small family of these who line up with all the other birds
to have a feed at the seed dish each morning. They have to give
way to all of the parrots, in particular the lorikeets, and
wait their turn, though they take precedence over the turtle doves
and topknot pigeons. I have seen a magpie drop a small snake from
2-3 metres height and chase it to pick it up again in its beak.

Lovely shot of this singing magpie. I love it when they are caroling and warbling away.

Nice shot Yvonne! I have groups of babies and adults outside my window as I work on my computer ..... I wonder there's not more baby magpie abuse the way these babies carry on. There's no rest for the parents, the demands are so constant and loud, and never satisfied! I like it when they carol though. It's usually what I wake up to!

What a variety of birds you have, Yvonne! We have magpies
in Finland, too, but they look very different..V!

Yup - the black birds are the bullies in our yard too..... I keep having to chase the crows away from the seed to give the songbirds a chance to eat.
Cute shot Von!

:) It's interesting they have to "kow tow" to the parrots, because in our garden they are the bullies!
