The Valley Temple of Khephren (Cephren, Khufre) was first stop of the corpse of the Pharaoh and son of Khufu on its way to burial. From the initial preparations in the Valley temple, the body was taken up toward the pyramid on a causeway to a Mortuary Temple at the base of the pyramid. Burial ensued from there.
