Originally named Carmathen Hills and Landsdowne hills,The Blue Mountains
were renamed to their current name after noting the distinctive blue haze
of the area..
The cause of this haze is due to the large Eucalyptus tree population ;
the oil from these trees, when evaporated ,mixing with water vapour in the air
causes the famous blue glow.
The history of the Blue Mountains is nearly as old as Australia itself.
From the time of Captain Cook's landing , in 1788, until 1813 the Blue Mountains
were considered an impossible barrier to trek past for explorers. However in 1813
that barrier was broken by three explorers .Blaxland .Wentworth and Lawson,
along with a crew of aides..
