Obviously Honda saved on R&D by using a BMW R75/5 transmision, rear swing arm, modified frame, seat. I've heard rumors that BMW had a water cooled flat four in development at the same time, but Honda beat them to the showroom with the Goldwing, and BMW scrapped thier project.
