En route to the coast of Melchior Islands, Antarctica.
Enjoying a glorious sunny and unusually warm day with Dr. Gerald Kooyman.
Dr. Kooyman is Professor Emeritus of Biology at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography,
an expert on diving animals, has provided much of the existing information on the natural history of penguins
and also completed the first scientific observations of Emperor Penguins during the Antarctic winter.
As a cinematographer, Dr. Kooyman has contributed to IMAX, BBC, and PBS NOVA films on Antarctica.
He was also scientific advisor for the movie March of the Penguins.
He has spent more time performing research in Antarctica than any other person.
I enjoyed the jobial and fascinating talks with Dr. Kooyman during our trip. A legend as a
scientist and a truly remarkable friend.
His wife was the photographer on this picture.
