19: tradition

DASA - Arbeitswelt Ausstellung Dortmund

When I was young, we learned that the natural and traditional role of a woman is to be a housewife,
happily working within her tiny kingdom called kitchen.
Now it felt strange somehow, to see this familiar surrounding of my childhood at the DASA exhibition.
It made me think about the changes in the course of a lifetime.
I think the main function of tradition is, to have something to rely on and to know where you come from.
But itīs good, that there is a steady process to get rid of some them.

This is pretty cool! Love the pic...I do it all, bring home the bacon, do the housework, yard work, remodeling, fix vehicles, cook, etc...:)

I totally agree with your comment. Some changes are so gradual that they creep up on us so it's good to have photos such as this as a reminder of where we have been. V

Modern convenience has give women and men a lot more time to pursue other interests, including careers. Nice image and thoughtful commentary today!

indeed Werner, it is lucky for us women that the world a bit has changed in favour of women!

I like to work in that kingdom too. Been cooking most of the day.

I love the retro look of this scene both subject and processing. V.

In our ancestral kitchen in Munich we had fittings and kitchenware from around 1920 and before, so this one seems modern. Wish some of it had been kept, they would be antiques now. Cool photo, love the Staubsauger!

I'm old enough to remember a kitchen like that!
And ever so glad that today any time I spend there is purely by choice! This is definitely an image that causes one to stop and reflect.

I've always said that I don't want my tombstone to read "She kept a very clean house." ;)

Always find it fascinating looking at how things were in the older days and just how much times have changed.

Tradition that many embraced...times of change have come.
I like looking at the differences.
