Bernie and I decided to spend today wandering around. We had a few things in mind and started in the Watson-Cooper Heritage Preserve in upstate SC. But we went in at the entrance that's off of East Fork Rd in NC because the preserve happens to border the previously mentioned Charles Taylor property. Don't tell the sheriff of Busted Rock Rd, but we did a nice loop around some creek headwaters looking for more of those 25 waterfalls that was mentioned in the press release. No luck - at least I hope what we saw doesn't classify as one of the falls. It was a nice hike along a tangle of old roads. This land has been under a hunting lease and we were pleased to see that these folks have been good stewards of the land. We saw virtually no trash - including no cig butts that I saw. One of these roads passed through a camp area with a small old trailer, and even that was picked up and everything in place. I guess I could have snapped a shot or 2, but decided to save my film. Another plan was to hike some trails in the preserve, but I really wanted to head to the Eva Russell Chandler Heritage Preserve which is down 276 south of Caesars Head. I had heard and seen pictures of pitcher plants and wanted to see them so KT doesn't skunk me on seeing pitcher plants in the wild. When we got to the rock outcropping at Slickums Falls, the first thing I noticed were these ferns. Hadn't seen these before.
