These are the brilliant and brave members of the Whitehorse State Emergency Service, Victoria.
It was my privilege to photograph them last night in Box Hill South. All members of the SES are volunteers.
These are the men and women who come out to rescue you in storms, floods and other natural disasters - and they do it all for FREE.
We owe these wonderful people and great deal. Many of us would not be here without them.
From Robert Olifiers, People Sector Leader:
"We are one the biggest and busiest units in Australia with over 1000 jobs,
assisting the community of Whitehorse and Boroondara each year.
We are all volunteers, ranging in ages and professions. We are keen to hear
from people who have daytime, weekday availability as we have many members
who work and can only assist in the evenings and weekends."
