Oct 11: Notebook disaster

I’ve recently started keeping a little pocket notebook with me. All sorts of stuff goes in there. Ideas, telephone numbers, notes about what I’ve been shooting with my film cameras, funny things I’ve seen, stupid thoughts I’ve had. It’s great. Until you drop it outside late at night and it gets rained on for 16 hours before you find it in a puddle. Some of the pages are beautiful but illegible. This page for example, I think documents my eMac Leopard installation...

Lessons learned:
*My favourite Diamine Blue-Black fountain pen ink is not waterproof.
*I can’t back up my notebook to a Firewire drive like I can my MacBook
*I should leave my notebook at home when going out on a ‘session’

I've left a gap. Oct 9 is on film and yesterday I borrowed LM's camera and I've yet to retrieve my pic from her 'puter.

Of course, even if you keep your records electronically, if you leave your Firewire drive in a puddle for 16 hours it probably won't keep your data any better.

Oh it's beautiful. What a lovely colour the ink has turned.

If that were me I'd be adding salty tears to those sad damp pages. Oh well, they say the good mistakes are the ones we learn from.
