The Friedman kid's had to grow up quick. Each of us esentially were out of the house at a very early age. I was out on my own at 16. I went to school and worked around the clock to support myself and to help out my brother and two sisters. They were in the same boat. TA at Area D was only one of my jobs. Nicks Liquor Store, CheapSkates on the Venice Boardwalk, UA Cinema Center. My rent was 115.00 dollars a month at 3rd and Marine! (1976) My wages $2.65-$3.75 an hour. None of us had a car. All the kids rode from job to job on bikes. It all turned out pretty well. Both my sisters have raised/raising beautiful children and my brother and I are both Firefighter/Paramedic's in So Cal.
Our family moved into Venice in 63. My father, played jazz for the Playboy Club. When the Club opened in Hollywood, our Dad got transfered. We moved into a nine room house at 20 Anchorage St. Rent...100.00 a month. Our family bought the Cabrillo House for $26,000.00 This was the second house built in Venice. It was built for a staff member of Abbot Kinney.
I hope all is well with ALL of you who call or have called venice your home.

I remember Tad being a teacher's aide at Area D Alternative school when I went there. - Lance Williamson (either that, or he was about 5 years behind in 12th grade?)
