I'm thinking that you may be thinking of a later date...did you see the pictures in "Venice Memories"
http://www.pbase.com/venicepix/image/45304057 http://www.pbase.com/venicepix/image/45304058 I must admit that I was often a bit late arriving with the camera, sometimes because I liked to surf it first ( but not the big stuff... I only surfed the Southside once and I can't say that I enjoyed it. When I finally managed to take off, my board started to buzz like a hornet, never having encountered such a wave [ I was later advised that my fin must have been loose in the box but I prefer to believe that my board was just angry with me for being such an old fool...])but often because I just liked a leisurly breakfast. The result was that the guys who just couldn't drag themselves away got more, though not necessarily better, frames on the proof sheets....and these days I have no idea who anyone was since by then the sun was out over the ocean and everything was backlit!

harry and one other person were the only people out in the afternoon. shortly after the pic was taken, one of the sailboats in the background was capsized by a very large wave.
