Starting in perhaps 1973 or 74, LJ and I would leave a little New Year's Greeting down by the breakwater. We would go down on New Year's Eve with a hammer and pound an old broomstick into the sand with a 'card', and later a little banner, atached......How weird was that!!! At first no one knew who they were from, but by 1980 we were daring to 'sign' our names. I think the first one was trashed, later I was told were being appropriated as souvenirs. This one managed to make it all the way to Jan 2 so we repossessed it and brought it back home ourselves. It comes out every year with our Christmas stuff and gets push-pinned to the wall next to the tree...
