The term "Muffler Man" has been given to a series of roadside giants that were produced in California. Their original purpose was to advertise establishments that perform work on auto and truck exhaust systems; hence the term "Muffler Man" Since their production start in the 1960s, these giants have been used for many other, generally advertising, purposes. According to roadsideamerica.com where the locations of the Muffler Men can be found, there are about 200 still in existance throughout the United States and Canada.

The "Men" stand around 25 feet tall and come in various configurations and conditions.

Carmen & I first became aware of the Muffler Men during our initial trek down Route 66 along which four are located. We now make it a 'rule' during our road trip adventures to find these loveable creatures whenever we can. This gallery illustrates our visits to 30 or so Muffler Men sites (the one at Picacho Peak AZ was burned so we have no pictures. More images will be added as we drive to other sites along our travel route. The image caption shows the individual Muffler Man's name and the location.
