An orange paintbrush

Between Duck Creek and Purple Lake view map

An orange wavy-leaved paintbrush flower (Castilleja applegatei). Family: Orobanchaceae - was until recently considered to be in Scrophulariaceae). These plants are hemiparisitic, which means they are partly parositic on host plants (e.g. for minerals, water or organic matter) and they photosynthesize as well.
