A lovely portrait, Mo, but a very distracting context. Once again, it is faulty metering that is hurting you here. Always EXPOSE for highlights in digital imaging. Your matrix metering is exposing for the shadows, giving us a well exposed subject and a brutally overexposed background. If you use your spot meter on the background the subject will get much darker, but you can easily making him brighter again in Photoshop. Are you studying each picture in your LCD viewfinder as you them? You should be able to see this problem on the spot, and correct for it.
