Oh how I loved the Black Cabs of London! If only the US had a similar system!
Also known as the London Black Cab, these vehicles, and their drivers, have earned the reputation for providing the best taxi service in the world.
Every driver is required to undergo a rigorous test of his/her knowledge of London which can take up to four years to learn before the coveted badge is awarded.
Each individual's character is tested and checks are made regarding any criminal records.
Don't you believe it.My experience of them is that they are liars, cheats and murderers. The one who damn near killed me,outside St.Thomas' Hospital,in November 2004,by doing a u-turn without looking, denied involvement. It took a retrial to find him guilty, give him a hefty fine and 9 points on his licence.I was off work for 4 months and had to undergo 6 months of physiotherapy to learn how to stand up straight again.I had been minding my own business riding a motorcycle in beautiful, dry conditions, when he did the u-turn.
A wonderful system. I wonder if GPS will have a negative impact on the training requirements. A fine photo with a lovely sense of "getting somewhere". V
