Galena Depot.JPG

...Continued from previous photo.

A Chicago architect in the employment of the Company(ICRR), framed the Building and as far as we can judge, it is admirably adapted to the purposes it is designed. Denio was the contractor and mason. Dodge, the carpenter, and Swift the painter. The work upon the building is well done, and reflects credit upon the builders and painter.
The Depot, with its Italianate architecture, has long been a Galena landmark. The Second story continued to serve as an apartment through the 1960s. When the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad offered the depot for sale in 1974, Ralph Benson purchased the facility so the city could eventually own it. Mr. Benson made numerous major repairs including tuckpointing.
