An eastbound loaded coal train derailed on Union Pacific's busy Geneva Subdivision in northern Illinois Sunday April 30, 2007 at approximately 2:30 pm. The train, the CBTND-27 derailed a total of 14 cars. Three cars fell into the Rock River west of Dixon, with the roadbed under the cars sliding into the river as well. The derailment blocked main track no. 1 at MP 105.6 on the former Chicago & North Western Chicago-Omaha portion of the Overland Route. The bridge appeared to sustain no damage from the derailment. Main line no. 2 was not blocked, and UP began running trains through the area at about 7 p.m. Sunday on the remaining open track. Derailment engineering firm Hulcher was on the scene with heavy equipment.
This Derailment was thought to be caused by Sun Kink. no one was hurt.
