Muay Thai, sometimes called "Muay thai boxing", is an ancient martial art and fighting sport which make use of numerous stand-up fighting techniques and a series of clinching skills. This martial art is also recognized as the "art of twelve limbs" because it is characterized by the use of five limbs, elbows, feet, shins and fist. The sport has been around since early times, but the real life sport that is practiced today is Thailand. Muay Thai is now one of the most popular sports in the country. The sport incorporates several types of fighting techniques such as clinch hold, ground fighting, jump striking, takedowns, throws and the evergreen hammerfist.

Many westerners claim that Muay Thai is just a traditional Thai sport but the truth of the matter is that there are several differences between the two. Muay Thai is actually much more than just a traditional Thai sport though. It is actually taught in schools all over the world and is often accompanied by some form of physical activity or training. The real difference between Muay Thai and other forms of traditional martial arts like taekwondo or karate is that Muay Thai makes use of a close combat fighting skill which involves many different movements in order to attack or defend.

There are several organizations which call themselves the "Muaythai Federation". The largest of these organizations is the Thai Boxing Federation which is actually recognized by governments all over the world. Other organizations include the Universal Health Society, Knights of Thailand, and the International Muaythai Federation. All these organizations promote a sport which has become known as Muay Thai. The major beneficiaries of this sport are the Thailand government and the Thai people.

The aim of the Thai government is to promote muaythai as a sport for the masses and to get it into as many gyms and sports clubs as possible. In most cases you will receive a silver medal and if you win you will be automatically become a lifetime member.

There are a number of rules which prevent students from participating in sanctioned fights and from using banned substances. If you are caught participating in any banned substance you can be suspended from membership and lose your benefits. As a student you must follow all of the rules of the muaythai Federation and any other organisation associated with it. If you wish to be part of the muaythai community then it makes sense to take an open mind and try everything that isn't prohibited.
