If you engage in the act of trout fishing and prefer to use ultra light spin fishing gear, as I do, you will no doubt encounter scenarios where a trout fishing lure is the way to go. However, trying to determine the best lures to use when trout fishing can be a bit of a challenge, so in this article I am going to outline some of the lures that I have found to be effective during the past twenty five or so years that I have spent on the water fishing for trout.
Using lures while trout fishing certainly couldn't be compared to splitting the atom, but it is a little more involved than simply casting the lure into the water and retrieving it. That is if you want to consistently catch fish while employing lures as your trout bait. Doing things like varying the speed of your retrieve, "snapping" your rod tip while retrieving, and learning to "drift" your trout lure with the current of a river or stream can all go along way towards catching more trout when using lures as bait.
In any case, let's get down to the best lures to use for trout fishing, what do you say?
Rooster Tail Spinners - Rooster Tail spinners, which are made by Worden, are an excellent lure to use for trout fishing. These inline spinners, which have excellent coloring and the hand-tied hackle tail which provide a bait with as much detail as a hand-tied fly.
Panther Martin Holographic Red Hook Spinners - Panther Martin inline spinners are some of the most effective trout fishing lures of all time. When you couple an effective trout spinner with a 'red hook' (which helps to trigger bites from hungry trout) you have a recipe for an effective trout lure. As a matter of fact these spinners are guaranteed to catch fish or you get your money back!
Trout Magnet Mini Jigs - The unique 1/64oz shad dart head and split tail allows the lure to fall horizontally rather than vertically. This is why most jigs do not work for trout. The Trout Magnet, on the other hand, flows naturally with the stream. With constant 1" to 3" twitches of the rod tip, the lure looks life-like as it moves in the water.
Shakespeare ugly stik gx2 spinning reel and fishing rod combo - Minnow plugs (Rapala's are the king of minnow plugs) are very effective fishing lures for trout as long as you keep the small. Two to three inches long is the perfect size to use on most trout waters.
Okuma reels for sale - All Mepps dressed Aglias are tied with either genuine buck tail or squirrel tail, and feature a natural bright red turkey quill for additional attraction. No artificial hair is used, which makes them more effective when used as a trout fishing lure.
The answer as to "the best" lure to use for trout fishing is largely up to personal preference, but the bottom line is that the answer to this question is more than likely among the aforementioned choices. I have all of them in my fishing vest and at different times they have all enabled me to catch a ton of trout and given the chance, I know they will do the same for you.
