This view is from the Castle Lake Viewpoint: you can, of course, see Castle Lake snuggled in at the base of Mount St. Helens, as well as the beginnings of the Toutle River coming from the base of the mountain into the valley. To this day, the Toutle is carving its way through the ash from the eruptions, and you can see that the river bed in the valley is mostly ash.
