Hal, They are above the balloons. I'm not sure if they are going into Phoenix or LA, but there are lots of trails over Havasu. You just don't see them all with the naked eye.
I don't remember for sure, but I would imagine if you looked at the sky that day, you would not see the clouds or vapor trails with your eyes. That is one of the "surprises" with infrared that I love so much!

l always associate vapor trails with large planes like air-liners.
l couldn't imagine them flying so low..... between the balloons.

BTW, Hal. That is one of the fun things about shooting infrared. The camera sees things that the human eye does not see (like the exaggerated vapor trails and clouds.)
