After The Fire

Recently, a building burned overnight in our downtown. I captured an image of the aftermath on my cell phone (below). They have now knocked down the walls, and I was struck by the remains and what was revealed.

(Over 100 firemen battled the overnight blaze in this 3 story building. The third floor housed an apartment. The blaze is believed to have started in a couch on the third floor. One person living there was taken to a burn center, but will recover. The second floor collapsed onto the first floor destroying the business. The building is cordoned off because the front wall is in jeopardy.)

I share Frank's fear of fire, but I do like seeing buildings in various stage of deconstruction. If you are there at the right moments, as you clearly were in the upper shot, you can get a glimpse into the building's history.

Thanks everyone.
Bob, The top image was taken with NEX 7 and Leica WATE. The lower one was taken with the cell phone.

I agree with everyone's comments on this one... remarkable documentary images especially with a cell phone.

It's eerie and sad for sure, like some theatre backdrop for a horror performance.

Well done Cindy

Fire, it scares the bejasus out of me.
When they take off, boy are they hard to control.
Love the detail on the wall.

Thanks, Maggie, Pat and Terry.
Terry, I think that what you see was probably covered up over the years with layers of new wall coverings. That is the part that fascinated me. Also, you can see that on the front of the buildings in the row, old brick was covered by new facades.

It is amazing to see what remained, Cindy. Surprising it isn't just all black!
