Like something out of a quicksilver dream...

Love the look of the car finish with this technique.

Love the effect here Cindy - makes the whole car look chromed.

Thanks, Pat, Terry and Tony.
Pete, I forgot to answer your question about heat. I'm no expert in this, but I know that the IR photography is in the IR-A range. I think that heat has an effect on the other IR wave lengths, such as when you have a heat-seeking missle, but not so much on IR-A. If anyone knows more about this, please chime in.

Fascinating stuff Cindy, thanks for sharing info on IR Techniques.
Terry 06-Sep-2010 15:43
I love this, Cindy. And thanks for the info on IR. Your lone
pine image really fooled me :). When I was in high school, chopping and
lowering these Fords was all the rage. I still like them :)

The IR works well here to get rid of background clutter and focus on the old car... nice capture.

Thanks for that Cindy.

Thanks Hal, Rudi, Pete and Frank.
I had my camera converted to permanent IR by this firm: http://www.precisioncamera.com/infrared-conversion-services.html
You can read all about it at that link. My conversion is the 715nm. I am not really a fan of false color. I had my first IR camera converted to the 665nm, but I found that I was always desaturating anyway. My present camera produces false color in some images (like the Blue Spruce yesterday), but they are not bright false colors.
Frank, I usually swap the red and blue channels in photoshop and convert to black and white. Some curve adjustment is usually needed.
I also do some IR with my Leica M8 and an IR filter. If you still shoot film, IR can be fun with IR film.

A superb looking machine, great shot.
I must try this IR sometime, Is there much to it Cindy??
Pete Hemington06-Sep-2010 14:32
Very nice shot - so as it's IR if the engine was hot you'd get a different picture round the bonnet/hood. Also this is a genuine question about IR - why isn't the guy head lighter as it's presumable warm, like the grass?
Rudi 06-Sep-2010 14:09
Ooooh, this one really works in IR! Very nicely done.

Ah, a brilliant photo in high key, lR, of a much loved and modified 1936 Ford
with lowered suspension. l can never understand why they lower the suspension.
lt looks ugly to me and takes away the authenticity of the old car. Maybe they made it into a hotrod.
That aside, Cindy, l love your photograph, done with your customary skill and flare.
