Between Two Women
Location:
Pushkar, India
November 2004
Photographer:
E.K. Schafhauser
A conversation? A secrete? A moment with a friend? Between two women a child listens.
A moment with another woman speaking of what women all over the world speak of.
A secrete that may be told by the telling of a story, or through the eyes and gestures that only women know how to interpret.
A conversation about children, food, husbands, hardships, loves, and losses, is intensely shared.
A child listens and learns of what women speak of between each other.
The Camel Festival at Pushkar has a carnival of color and activities that can only be experienced and not justly described. Camel caravans, cattle, horses, traders, and pilgrims come from great distances many by foot. These women by their dress are from Rajasthan. The silhouette of faces, in combination with and a private conversation creates the intrigue of human interaction.
