Rajasthan Woman and Child
Location:
Pushkar Camel Festival,
Pushkar, Rajasthan, India
November 2004
Photographer:

Dust rises from the desert floor revealing a train of men, and women, leading camels with loads on their back. Camel caravans that have walked across the desert landscape in Rajasthan arrive at Pushkar ready to trade and barter. It is the women who grace the desert with their endless variety of colorful dress and gilded silver jewelry. Intricate bead work displays the work of nimble hands that have created pieces of art to adorn the neck. Where are the babies when they are not being transported in baskets atop a camel? They are used to traveling high and swaying. They watch and listen as their mothers carry them with grace and ease upon their shoulder.
