Through the cracked window glass in this shop in Berkeley, I saw vacant, staring model eyes. The inside of the mannequin is as empty as some real people, and the poster model is as flat and superficial as many others. How is it that our society defines these artificial appearances as the ultimate in female beauty? And how many millions of women have pushed their bodies to the breaking point
(and beyond) to achieve this?
